I Need to change the fuel pump or the fuel filter on a 1985 cadillac deville. Help!?

I Dont Kno How To Do It?????I Need to change the fuel pump or the fuel filter on a 1985 cadillac deville. Help!?the fuel pump is located on top of the gas tank tank. there are two straps that hold the tunk up. un bolt them, recomend PB Blaster. lower the tank, un cliping or disconnecting any hoses holing the tank up. electical, filler and breather hoses, to the engine and return lines. slide it out, remove the retainer ring around the pump, lift out old slide in new. repeat in reverse for install. the filter is a cylinder that is located on probably a metal line under your passenger side frame. the line is connected to the tank. just unbolt it at bothe ends and replace. id check the filter first. if it starts, then its the filter, if it wont its the pump. the filter should be replaced either way though. good luck.I Need to change the fuel pump or the fuel filter on a 1985 cadillac deville. Help!?That old car should have a gas filter under the hood.Call dealership ask for a customer service rep they can tell you where that gas filter is exactly . If I was you not not fool around with gas tanks until you first replace the gas filter under the hood .I'm pretty sure that has an old cloth gas filter that's easy to replace and is probably what's at fault.

  • How to change infiniti i30 fuel filter?

Does anyone know how to change a 200 infiniti i30 fuel filter? How to change infiniti i30 fuel filter?I had a 2000 m30 so it cant be to much different. its located on the passenger side frame rail . you'll need two line wrenches i think 5/8 %26amp; 11/16.How to change infiniti i30 fuel filter? The Infiniti fuel filter on fuel injected cars and trucks are typically located in the engine compartment or can be located under the vehicle on the frame and are a large canister that can handle fuel pressures exceeding 100psi. A typical Infiniti fuel filter has a hose coming out of ether end and may be clamped, threaded or have special fittings to ensure reliable connection to the fuel system. A Infiniti fuel filter for carbureted engines can be located at the inlet of the carburetor or the filter or may be in the fuel feed hose and will be a clear plastic type. Infiniti fuel filters are designed to trap dirt, water and other harmful contaminants that may cause problems with fuel systems. This is exceptionally important when dealing with todays fuel injected cars and trucks as even a microscopic particle or a minimal amount of water will contaminate your fuel injectors, causing hundreds of dollars in repairs. The typical Infiniti maintenance recommendation for carbureted cars is to replace the fuel filter once a year. On cars with fuel injection, most manufacturers only recommend replacing the filter after the first 100,000 mile. However, most Infiniti service professionals believe its best to replace the fuel filter every two years or 24,000 miles. A contaminated Infiniti filter will put undue pressure on the electric fuel pump, eventually wearing out the pump prematurely, or worse let contaminates get to the Infiniti fuel injectors. Spending a few extra dollars every few years will save you hundreds in future repair costs. Infiniti fuel filter replacement is fairly easy and is something you can do yourself! But be careful as on fuel-injected cars, the fuel system remains under pressure even with the car off! In any case gas is highly flammable, so if you do decide to change your own Infiniti fuel filter or work around fuel, do not use an electric droplight to see under the car or in the engine compartment. Use a flashlight! Many houses have burnt to the ground from gas splashing on the electric light bulb causing a huge fire!

How do we prime the fuel line on a 96 Yukon after a fuel filter change?

The book shows a prime wire and I do not see it.If I find it do I just hook it to the battery + side to run the pump and prime it ?How do we prime the fuel line on a 96 Yukon after a fuel filter change? After you install the new filter, you simply just start the vehicle. No priming of the line is required! When you first turn the key on, the pump will run for a few seconds. The air in the fuel line will work it self out when it hits the pressure regulator.

I have never used, seen, or even heard of a priming wire for the fuel pump; what book did you find this in?

Since it runs on starting fluid, you do have a loss of fuel, but isn't because you replaced the fuel filter, you have another issue elswhere. Are you certain that the fuel pump is running? Do you have adequate fuel pressure at the motor (close to 60psi is required at the test port). How do we prime the fuel line on a 96 Yukon after a fuel filter change? The pump should prime the fuel line as soon as you turn the key on..thats what the initial hum is from the fuel pump. How do we prime the fuel line on a 96 Yukon after a fuel filter change?pumpwill start right awayHow do we prime the fuel line on a 96 Yukon after a fuel filter change?yellow spark is weak spark. you need blue spark. starting fluid will ignite with yellow spark but gas will not check your firing systemHow do we prime the fuel line on a 96 Yukon after a fuel filter change?turn your key on it will prime it salf in 30 or 40 secHow do we prime the fuel line on a 96 Yukon after a fuel filter change? No prime needed. Changing the fuel filter in my 1976 chevy half ton pickup with a small block 400?

need a little help with my fuel filter out of my 1976 chevy cheyenn pick up truck with a small block 400 and a 2 berrel carb when i go to take the filter out it starts to spray gass how do i get it to stop spraying gass so i can change the filtersChanging the fuel filter in my 1976 chevy half ton pickup with a small block 400?Usually the filter in those is located in the front of the carb, you will need two wrenches, can't remember the exact size to keep one from trying to tighten while the other is loosening. It won't spill alot from this, just wipe it up with a rag. Otherwise someone may have added an inline filter, just get it off, and back on as quickly as possible.Changing the fuel filter in my 1976 chevy half ton pickup with a small block 400?hmmm not sureChanging the fuel filter in my 1976 chevy half ton pickup with a small block 400?A carbed system won't have much residual pressure in the lines, your problem is probably very simple. My guess is that your fuel filter is located lower on the truck than the fuel tank, so when you remove the filter you're basically just allowing the tank to drain. Get a fuel hose clamp or clamp the hose shut with some vise grips or something of the sort, and that should solve the problem.

If that's not the problem, then maybe you do have some fuel pressure left over from when the truck was running, in which case you need to relieve that pressure somehow.... remove the gas cap

Question about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?

i've been doing this for a long time ,you tell me if this is a good idea or not : when reading the instructions they always suggest to release the fuel system pressure before changing your fuel filter this is what i do: i open the gas tank cap and then introduce half way a medium size screw driver to keep the gas tank neck open,is this a good thing to do to keep the fuel system unpressurized or maybe this doesn't make any sense to you, your opinion please, tanks in advanceQuestion about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?that does not release the fuel pressure. the best way is to remove the fuel pump fuse or relay and then crank the engine over for a few seconds. that will release any pressure so the fuel doesnt spray you in the face when you pop off the fuel line.Question about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?if it is fuel injected, on the fuel rail near the motor where it splits or near the first injector is a valve.that is where you release the pressure.they recommend the fuel pressure tester to release pressure..but you can use a screw driver and a rag to release it.you wrap the line with the rag and put the screw driver in the valve with the rag covering it so gas does not spray all over. remember the pressure is 14 to 22 lbs so gas is going to shoot outQuestion about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle? If you have a schrader valve type fitting on the fuel rail that's used for attaching a fuel pressure gauge, then press the center pin in to release some pressure with a rag to catch the fuel. If not, then I'd just gradually remove the filter connectors. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves.Question about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle? What you're doing will not relieve pressure in the fuel line. But unless you're in a diesel, the fuel pressure is nothing to worry about. You can relieve pressure by pulling the fuel pump fuse and running the engine 'till it quits, or you can just put a rag over the fitting so it won't squirt in your eyes, and you'll just get a few tablespoons of gas on your hand.Question about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?Steven's suggestion is right on.

Also, the fuel pressure at the rail is at least 40 PSI. Not something I would care to catch with a rag as yor skin absorbs gasline very easily. YUM!

The pressure that is to be released is between the pump and injectors, so leaving the fuel cap off only makes you feel better after clicking your heels a few times and ending up in Kansas.

Question on changing a fuel filter?

I have a 1989 cutlass ceira oldsmobile (3.3 Liter) and I want to change the fuel filter. When I turn off the engine will I have pressure in the fuel line near the filter that is located near the gas tank?

Please give me any tips on how to do this.Question on changing a fuel filter?Yes, but as you slowly turn the wrenches to loosen the fuel filter lines, the gas will simply start squirting out. It won't keep draining for long. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves. You can also press in the center pin on the fuel pressure schrader valve (a tire type valve) located on the fuel injection rail on top of the engine to relieve the pressure. Use a rag to soak up any fuel.Question on changing a fuel filter?i would think so just loosing nut very slowly with rag round it careful you dont get in eyes

Do I have to have the WHOLE fuel pump replaced just to change the fuel filter on my 04 Pont Grand am?

I was told that the fuel filter in my vehicle is not a %26quot;serviceable%26quot; one because it's located INSIDE the fuel tank. So therefore the whole fuel pump needs to be replaced and that's going to cost me around $500. For those that are mechanic savvy, is this true or am I being taken for a sucker on this? If it's not true how do I go about getting this taken care of? ANY guidance on this would be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE = )Do I have to have the WHOLE fuel pump replaced just to change the fuel filter on my 04 Pont Grand am?The fuel filter on a 2004 pontiac grand am is located under the drivers-side rear seat just in front of the rear wheel. It is a silver cylinder. You can't miss it. In fact if you can lie on your back and have two wrenches you can replace it your self in 10 minutes.

    Look for something like this.

    http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-GF847-Fuel

Now in the tank there is a sock filter - it is on the pump to keep sticks and stuff out of the pump. Sock filters are pretty coarse and are intended to last the lifetime of the car. They are big with a lot of area

See the big white thing here.

    http://www.amazon.com/Carter-P74105HP-Fu

If your car needs a fuel filter, then the fuel pressure is low. Your car will be hard to start or won't accelerate too well. If the sock is clogged you;'ll have the same symptoms.

I wouldn't replace the sock until the real fuel filter is replaced.

Since this guy wants to drop your tank - he is dumb or is on crack.

Tell him you don't have the money - and need your car back. Your going to donate it to charity. Then take it someplace elseDo I have to have the WHOLE fuel pump replaced just to change the fuel filter on my 04 Pont Grand am?wel part of that right

fuel pump is in tank and cant just replace a filter on it it has a sock type if the pump is bad shouldnt cost that much to replace it call a few more shopsDo I have to have the WHOLE fuel pump replaced just to change the fuel filter on my 04 Pont Grand am?not sure on your car but cars that have the filter on the fuel pump inside the the gas tank normally do have the fuel pump replaced to replace the filter. but those types of vehicles usually dont get the fuel filter changed out until the pump goes bad. if your fuel filter is plugged you can have them remove the pump and try to wash the filter out it may help the pump some. if its maintence that your worried about dont worry about the fuel filter if its internally in the gas tank hope this helps see ya.Do I have to have the WHOLE fuel pump replaced just to change the fuel filter on my 04 Pont Grand am?Your 04 Pontiac Grand AM has an intank fuel pump. (run it first)

could easily be the fuel pump or a clogged vent system. If you remove your gas cap does it run better?

    Could be clogged injectors.

If you have an auto parts palce nearby, have them pull the codes for you off your diag port.I have a 94 sunfire that is sputtering and really boggy. i change the fuel filter and it has gotten worse.?When you ask a question, be sure to include the type of motor as it makes a difference in the answer and in this case it does. If you don't have a shraeder valve at the motor area, you will be running a four cylinder and that would make this a TBI which means the fuel pressure at idle will be 12-15 psi. If this is a V-6 motor, there is a schraeder valve and it runs at 35-45 psi. It could be the fuel pump and you are right in trying to diagnose it first as this is a costly and time consuming job. If you get the pressure and it is not right, you will have to change out the pump and in-tank strainers. If it is not the pump as in the pressures are good, I would have a throrough look at all secondary ignition outputs and the condition of the wires, coils, and spark plugs and make a determination from there. Good luck.

except that only applies to the efi engines...

as far as i know (have owned several 80-86 fords) in 83 you could not get a efi f150.

so it would be on the fuel line, from the mechanical pump on the block to the carb. at the carburator end.How to change a fuel filter on a 83 ford f-150?Most ford fuel filters are located under the drivers side along the frame. The first thing you have to buy a special tool from the auto center. The filter has a locking system, you place the tool around the gas line and push the tool in the end of the filter, this will unlock it from the gas line. It has a spring locking system. make sure you relieve the fuel pressure first, or you will get soaked with gasoline. How do i change my fuel filter? and clean my idle control valve?

when starting my car its fine, but when i go to pull off it starts sputtering, as if its going to stall? many people tell me that it is a idle control valve issue, which im told is a common problem. my car is a 1998 vauxhall vectra 2.0litre injection. i have change the air filter and spark plugs, its been topped up with water and oil. as for the rest of the car well the exhaust appears to be okay so i know its not that....please can anyone shed some light onto my everlasting problem..................?How do i change my fuel filter? and clean my idle control valve?Your IAC valve ( idle air control) is an electronic device that has a valve in it that over time gets a build up of carbon deposits and will make it act up and not perform correclty. Normally when these go bad you have hard starting where you have to hit the gas to open the throttle valve or give more air to engine to start...also you may have idling issues up or down or high idle.

Some people claim they have cleaned it on other models and can help it or improve the performance, but i have never seen that, at my job they always replaced the IAC valve.

you may also want to have a service named %26quot;decarb%26quot; the repair shop will run a chemical cleaner through the system and also clean your intake runners and valves and a few other things that in conjunction with the new IAC Valve you should no longer have that problem.

I tried following the manual to do this and ended up with a bunch of gas in my eyes (thank god for safety goggles). I had relieved the pressure in the fuel lines by removing the gas cap, taking out the fuse and turning the key for a few seconds. When gas started spraying I just tightened it back up, and walked away. But I can not see spending $100 for something that seems so simple, should I just put a rag over the filter, or am I missing an important step. Also, when turning the key, how do I know when I have attempted to start the car long enough to relieve the fuel pressure? How do I change the fuel filter on 94 buick regal 3800?Hey,

The book says to remove the fuel pump fuse and crank the engine, actually let it run until it dies. Now from experience I will tell you that there will still be some fuel in the line so like you suggested take a good thick rag and rap it around to keep fuel from getting on you and pull it off.Once you get it off there will be a little fuel drain out so you may want to get a catch pan.

When you replace the filter and get it secured go replace the fuse and turn the key to the on position and let the pump run until you hear it stop then repeat this step 3-4 times while making sure you have no leaks the start the engine and check for leaks one more time.I hope this is helpful. How do I change the fuel filter on 94 buick regal 3800?Dude just take it to a garage it will save you time and hassle and it is about $40.

Changing out the fuel filter I filled it back up with diesel that may have had dirt in it. How will I know if I've gotten debris into the fuel system? Will it clog my injectors, could it possibly make it to the pistons? It probably wasn't over half a gallon but it may have had some dirt in it. I just can't afford a rebuild at this time.I own a 2.4L Toyota diesel and may have contaminated the fuel when changing a filter, how will I know? From what you are saying you are worried that the fuel tank has dirt in it, well the good news is that the dirt is on the right side of the fuel filter!

You're fuel filter will stop the dirt getting from the fuel tank to the engine.

However if you are really paranoid then drain the tank out, re-seal, fill it with 3 gallons of clean diesel, bounce the truck up and down by hand and re-drain the fuel. Now re-fill with a couple of gallons of clean diesel and rive to the gas station to fill up properly and your done!I own a 2.4L Toyota diesel and may have contaminated the fuel when changing a filter, how will I know?if your that worried about it dont start it and take the filter back out and pop a new oneback in, if the filter doesnt collect it , it would prossibly clog the injectors

How do I changed my fuel filter...?

I own a 2004 Hyundai Accent. If it is plugged, I would suggest having a pro do the job...How do I changed my fuel filter...?Fuel filter? Do you mean OIL filter? your fuel filter shouldn't go bad on a 2004 model. Still under warranty? How do I changed my fuel filter...?Nope. Don't touch it unless you are a mechanic or engineer. You're going to end up killing yourself. I don't care if you're short on money. This is not something you touch if you're not mechanically inclined. How do I changed my fuel filter...?I cannot verify currently the location of your fuel filter. It will be in 1 of 3 places. If it is in the engine bay It will look like a small can with a line going in top under a bolt and a line coming from the bottom going to the Fuel rail. If it is under the car it will be a small can with a hose hose clamped to each end. and if its in the tank its rather hard to change but I will tell you just to answer your question. I suggest having a mechanic friend or pro handle it if its there. To take it out of the tank, You will most likely need to depressurize the system by removing the efi relay under hood and run the engine until it dies on its own. then try to start it a few times. then disconnect the battery. in the trunk under the carpet and maybe spare tire there will be a small panel held in place by some bolts/screws. undo them and underneath is your fuel tank, there will be a circle with connectors coming out the top. you will have to unbolt it and lift out the fuel pump assembly. In the assembly will be the filter, the pump, and most likely the fuel level sender with float. Sometimes you have to replace it as a unit I am not sure on your car. If you don't you can replace the filter if you do You will have to buy a new unit at a store and swap the fuel lines onto it and electrical connections etc. For tools you will need sockets ( My guess would be metric around a 17 but not sure ) a flathead if you need to take off the hose clamps, and 10s or 12mm socket for the panel and tank cover in trunk. If you have to take off the lines to the fuel pump you will need a fuel line clamp and A lot of luck. I personally wouldn't mess with it unless you HAVE to. Any questions Ill be around. Oh and if they are in the engine or under the car depressurize the system and simply unbolt/unclamp them, and replace the way they came out. Make sure flow is correct way. -mike.

P.S. After searching it looks like the fuel filter Might be the under the chasis kind. Look something like this :http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Hyundai/Accent/Hastings/Fuel_Filter/2004/HAGF346.html?tlc=Engine+%26+Drivetrain , do depressureize the system and find it.

    Break fluid

ThanksWhen to change ht leads, fuel filter and break fluid?not sure what ht leads are, but as for fuel filter, once a year. and brake fluid about once every 100,000 miles. brake fluid absorbs moisture out of the air which makes it not work effeiciently. but i have found that changing it at this times works fine, unless the car sits up for about a half year then change it as soon as you get it back on the road.

How easy is it to change the spark plugs on a bmw 523i e39 ?

is it a diy job or am i best just leaving it to the pro's .Also need to change fuel filter how easy are they???????How easy is it to change the spark plugs on a bmw 523i e39 ?Spark plug should be easy enough for average home mechanic. Just don't strip the aluminum block - use the anti-seize and torque wrench!!! I would also spray Wd40 into the spark plug whole and let it sit for a minute before taking them out. I would use Bosch or NGK plug for this car. Also don't be surprised when half of these plug holes are buried in oil. It is a common problem for this car to leak the oil from the failed plug gasket. Replacing the ring gasket is another 40 minute job, and you would have to do several times for life of the car. If you torque down the plugs properly, it would not get bad enough to stall the car.

I would leave the fuel filter to a mechanic. Usually 5 series fuel filter is located near the rear sub-frame. But for these cars, I think is located under the driver seat. It is supported by small sub-frame and is pain in the butt to take it out. If you are experienced in replacing fuel filter for other cars, it should be straight forward. Otherwise, leave it up a mechanic. They have lifters that would make this job much easier. How easy is it to change the spark plugs on a bmw 523i e39 ?Sang K have pretty much got everything covered.

If you should decide to do the fuel filter yourself, make sure you DEPRESSURIZE the fuel line before you start! Or you'll end up spraying fuel at high pressures all over the place and possibly in your face/eyes (gasoline in your eyes = very painful = NOT GOOD).

Do this by pulling out the fuel pump fuse and starting the car, rev it till it dies out. Even after this, you should wear a pair of goggles when you undo the fuel line hose from the filter because there may still be some pressure left in there.

For the spark plugs, you can buy small packs of anti-seize from Autozone or Advance Auto Parts (presumably the same place where you would buy your spark plugs) for $1 or so. 2 packets should be enough.

How much should it cost to have a mechanic change the inline fuel filter of a 1993 toyota paseo?

How to change the fuel filter on a ML430?

You do not need to remove the back seat. You have to remove the back wheel and the plastic innner wheel well though. It may be hard to manuver in the small space were the filter is if you have large hands. You will need to depress the tabs on the lines where they connect to the filter. There are 2 of them on each line that are 180 degrees from each other. Chances are you have new lines that came with the filter. They made a change in the filter to a longer one and the lines need to be used to fit it.

Make sure you connect the lines to the filter before setting it in place.

After filter is in place. Turn the ignition on and off about 6 times to prime the new filter.

If you don't and try to start it, it will trip an engine code. The code is no big deal if you do trip it but you need a special tool to reset the computer.

Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?

I'm not a mechanic by any means...I'm good with changing oil, brake pads, spark plugs, some belts and could do an alternator....but I'm not certain if I should try the transmission fluid or take it to a garage???? Also, I looked in my Haynes book and seems like the fuel filter sits on top of the fuel tank and I will have to go back and look but I think I remember reading something about a hatch under the back seat to change the fuel filter so you don't have to drop the tank. Anyone ever try these two things and how difficult would it be??Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?Personally, I don't think a 2002 needs a gas filter change. I wouldn't bother.

As for transmission fluid, I would change it at about the 75,000 mile mark.

First, purchase only fluid made for that vehicle from the dealer - don't buy a generic substitute at the auto store! The Honda's are very fussy about the fluid. I wouldn't take a chance on ruining the trans by buying a cheap replacement fluid.

It is very easy to change it. Just put a catch pan under the trans and remove the plug to drain the fluid. It is true that you will not drain 100% of the fluid this way, but replacing 80% of it gives your trans mostly new fluid in it. This is what I do. The service stations try to sell you a flushing of the system, but it is expensive (they have to pay for the expensive machine).

If you are really concerned about getting all of the old fluid out you can flush it yourself. Here's how: Buy twice the amount of fluid (8 containers instead of 4). Find the trans inlet cooling tube on the bottom of the radiator and crack it open to allow fluid to escape. Start the car and let it idle while filling with new fluid. When you think half of the fluid has been passed through, secure the cooling tube and top off the fluid. It's still a lot cheaper than having a flush done.Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?if you don't know how to change it, take it to mavis tires or somewhereHonda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?alot of times with a 'drain and fill' method for switching up ur tranny fluid, you will only end up replacing about 50-75% of the fluid, is your trans auto or manual? If it's an auto, I would reccomend just bringing it into a quick lube shop, most of them have t-tec machines that go straight into the dipstick hole, and will replace 100% of the trans fluid. Also, for your fuel filter, I can't remember if the 2002's still have the fuel filter located under the hood by the firewall, if your FF is there, it is an extremely easy job to do, you will just need some open box end wrenches, and vice gripsHonda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?dude dont do it your self, tranny is something you dont wanna mess with, unless you have money for a new one... I think you have to blow and flush all the fluid out b4 you put in the new one, its not like changing motor oil so just take it to the dealer so you have the warranty on it aswell

  • What are possible effects of having a bad fuel filter on a car?

Can someone please tell me what how do a car reacts when its time to change the fuel filters? What are possible effects of having a bad fuel filter on a car?A fuel filter could be the problem, but it is more likely that you are having an ignition problem, and a plug is either not firing, or firing out of sequence. Change your plugs, make sure your plug wires are going to the correct cylinder, and that they make good contact with the plugs, and make sure your plugs are well connected at the distributor. You may have a bad plug, a bad plug cable, water in the distributor, or a valve cover gasket that is allowing oil into a cylinder. If it is the latter, one of the plugs you pull should have oil all over the bottom of it.What are possible effects of having a bad fuel filter on a car?It won't want to accelerate hard, or run good at high speeds. If there's any doubt, change the filter. They are cheap! What are possible effects of having a bad fuel filter on a car?If it is the fuel filter, your engine is starved for gas so you can expect stalling, hard starting, sputtering and those sort of symptoms. How important is changing your fuel filter?

The owner's manual said to change it at 60,000 miles. I drive a 2003 Ford Focus with a 2.0 DOHC I-4. I didn't change it. Are they expensive? Will my engine erupt in a fireball if I don't change it?How important is changing your fuel filter? On a scale of 1 to 5; with 5 being the most important, changing the fuel filter is about a 4.

At 60k miles, your focus should more on regular oil %26amp; filter changes and other preventive maintenance.

The fuel filter is not expensive and should be easy to replace. Your engine is not likely to suffer any damage (erupt in a fireball) if you don't change it.

Check here for more information and discuss issues with other Focus owners:http://www.fordforum.com/m_20137/tm.htm

Good luck. How important is changing your fuel filter? It's important to get it done at the proper intervals, usually 30 60 and 90 and then from that point on.How important is changing your fuel filter? While I don't think it will cause your engine to burst into flames I do believe that changing it will help to increase your gas mileage and it will help you engine to last longer. How important is changing your fuel filter?I had a Plymouth Sundance and decided to obey the owner's manual. I asked a mechanic to change the fuel filter. It cost me about $70. The car ran terrible for many months after that. Sure wish I had never done it!

Now I'm back to the old wisdom: %26quot;Don't fix it if it ain't broke.%26quot;How important is changing your fuel filter? Please do not worry. Nothing will go wrong with your engine and it will NOT erupt in a fireball.

Air filters are not expensive, and since I do not know your market I cannot comment on the price.

Air filters merely clean the air entering your engine by removing sand and dust which are abrasive in nature when they enter the insides of an engine. Delaying the change will only result in a bit of rich fuel mixture, since the shortage of air (with a choked filter) will tend to draw in more fuel per each engine cycle. I would suggest that you change the air filter at your convenience as soon as possible, yet do not worry about it unduly.

In our part of the world if we do not wish to change the air filter, we merely remove it and blow compressed air from inside out which blows out the deposits and makes it good for a few more miles. But we do change it subsequently. How important is changing your fuel filter?Your car won't blow up or anything, but if you fail to replace the filter, impurities will eventually find their way into the fuel lines, the injectors, etc... It is considerably less expensive to replace the fuel filter as opposed to replacing or repairing fuel system components.

How do i change fuel injectors on my '95 plymouth neon?

I have a '95 Plymouth Neon SOHC 2.0 manual transmition. I've been advised to change the fuel injectors due to a starting problem. (car cranks but won't start (already changed fuel pump and filter)). I've got a hold some new injectors and i want to try them out before i send the car away to a junk yard. Any general instructions will definitely come in handy.

THX...How do i change fuel injectors on my '95 plymouth neon?you would have to have a heck of injector fault for that to be the problem. Do yourself a favor of spending the cash and goto local parts store and ask if they have a %26quot;noid%26quot; light for the injector on that car. Most places like autozone sell them for around 8 bucks.

Unplug an injector and plug that into the plug. have someone try to start the car and notice if the light flashes. If it doesnt %26quot;and I bet it doesnt%26quot; then its not the injectors.

Also, does it have spark? You might have a crank sensor or even a timing belt problem.

You can have an injector flooding a cylinder, but it shoudl at leats try to start. never have I seen all injectors dump at once. so do as I mentioned above.

Feel free to email me from my profile and let me know if you have spark and noid light, I can tell you where to go from there.

But seriously, noid light it before replacing injectors. How do i change fuel injectors on my '95 plymouth neon?Very simple. I pulled mine off about 3 years ago when I installed a new intake manifold and from what I recall, there are only 2 or 3 screws holding the fuel injector rail in place. Once you have taken those out and removed the fuel line from the rail, unclipped the electrical plugs from the injectors, and release the fuel pressure from the rail ( very important, otherwise you could be soaked in fuel ), the whole assembly ( including the injectors ) comes off. You would then remove the injectors individually from the rail.

How to change the fuel filter on an expedition 03???

well it has a cover in it what do i need to open that cover?? what are the tools i need??How to change the fuel filter on an expedition 03???A flat bladed screwdriver inserted into the cover tabs and turned slightly, while pulling down on the cover. The fuel lines connect to the fuel filter with plastic clips in the lines. There are three lines connected to the filter. There is a plastic square on the side of the fitting, you need to push the line towards the filter and push in on the plastic square on the side of the fitting, and then pull the line away from the filter while holding in on the plastic square. Cover the line when you remove the line from the filter, the fuel is under pressure and will spray out. After the lines are removed, pull outward on the filter to remove from the bracket.

How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?

I have a 1990 camaro rs. I was just changing my fuel filter and after I got the bolt off for the out end of the filter gas started coming out. I expected a little to come out but it just kept coming in a steady stream so I quickly put the bolt back on. Will gas just keep coming out until I get the new filter in? or will it just stop after a little while. I've got 3/4 of a tank left and I don't want to accidently drain the whole tank. so far I'm guessing about 2 cups worth have came out. what should i do to save gas?How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?NO . IT WILL NOT ALL LEAK OUT....JUST WHAT IS LOADED IN THE LINES...USE A CATCH PAN AND LET IT DRAIN......JUST MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE FILTER IN WITH THE ARROW TOWARDS THE ENGINE...GOOD LUCK!How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?Added to the previous responders... DON'T do it in the garage!

It's one thing to have your car catch fire, but if it happens inside the garage... well, you get the idea. How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?if the fuel pump isnt on then it will prob. stop. theres quite a bit in the filter itself so thats prolly what your seeing. How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?If it's fuel injected, you should have relieved the line pressure before removing the filter bolt.

Here's the way the pros do it. They get vacuum caps in assorted sizes and remove one end of the line and quickly cap it off. Most of the gas will be coming backwards from the fuel rail back down towards the filter. So cap that off first. Then remove the connection to the fuel tank.

    Hope that helps.

  • How do i take off the mounting bolt from fuel filter?

I have a 98 Chevy Malibu and need to change the fuel filter....The bolt seems to be very tight and cant take it off....tried alot of things and no luck, i almost make it round....any suggestions? I mean any will help out...How do i take off the mounting bolt from fuel filter?im sure its a metric nut/bolt.if its rounded off and you did use a six point socket, try using a standard socket and pound it on with a hammer, that's if you can get a hammer in their and be able to swing it.other than that a good pair of vise grips and a strong set of arms should do it.How do i take off the mounting bolt from fuel filter?Take a hacksaw, seriously, and cut the bracket on the filter off. The only thing the bracket does is reduce vibrations and support the 1 pound fuel filter. You can then pull the fuel filter off and replace without reconnecting the bracket.

I've had it happen lots of times, never had one fall off.How do i take off the mounting bolt from fuel filter?take it to a mechanic and ask them to undo it for you and ask them for a new bolt wont cost much if any and less dangerous than cutting the bracket

Changing Fuel Filter on a 98 Cavalier? Quick Disconnect?

I have located the fuel filter on my cavalier pretty easyily. I depressurized the system, but now I am stuck. There is a HP disconnect that I have never seen. There is a black plastic piece right where the filter inlet connects with the tube. The plastic quick connect thing looks like a soda bottle cap with 4 segments (it looks like they should be squezzed or spreak, but I don't know). I know Im supposed to do something with this, but what? I spent many hours trying to figure out how to get this off... no luck. I went to auto parts store and they gave me the wrong tool, so I don't think they know what Im talking about. Also, the new filter has a different looking connection... does this matter?Changing Fuel Filter on a 98 Cavalier? Quick Disconnect? If the line has a plastic female fitting over the inlet/outlet of the fuel filter, then it is a squeeze type fitting (you squeeze the tabs and pull). Problem is, if the filter hasn't been changed in a while, the plastic is dry-rotting, and the filter is rusted solid into the fittings. Easy way out is to get the fuel line repair kit, and cut the filter out.Changing Fuel Filter on a 98 Cavalier? Quick Disconnect?you can call the dealer and they have most of the times better answers then part stores. They sometimes will even tell you what tool to use. Also you may want to buy a manual for your car. If not looking for the manual sometimes auto part stores have manuals that are open you can peek at this chapter before buying the manual. Good LuckChanging Fuel Filter on a 98 Cavalier? Quick Disconnect?sounds like the squeese thing but if not i think.....look for the triangle shaped plastic piece and pull out from that side. a small screwdriver is easiest. nice word right? they break easy but also are easily replaced.usually come with the filter. and make sure the filter is the same it may not fit or the flow may be in the wrong direction.

How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?

I changed the fuel filter on my 01 Pontiac Grand Am and dirty fuel came out the inlet side of the filter and clean fuel came out the outlet side. Is this common of a clogged fuel filter? How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?A clogged fuel filter would not provide the proper fuel pressure and fuel volume per unit time even though the fuel pump was functioning properly. Dirt in itself does not mean any filter is bad, including air filters, fuel filters, oil filters etc. In fact, when a filter starts %26quot;loading up%26quot; with particulates (dirt etc), it actually filters better than when it's brand new as long as the minimum pressure and volume are maintained. You can often get 80,000 miles use out of a fuel filter and it will still be providing the pressure and volume required. However, if you run your tank dry, water and sediment from the bottom of the tank can be pumped up into the filter, so it's recommended that you change the filter if you run out of fuel. How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?if the filter is out side the fule tank then just take the filter loos and check the presser from the fule pump if you changed it and you thing the new one is pluged make shure you put it on the right way thare shood be a flow arrow on the filter hope this helpedHow to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?very common .you could blow threw it and then blow threw the new one and compare ,or you could cut the old filter up and see how dirty it was.How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?yes, you'll see that every time :)

How to change a fuel filter on a 1980 chevy citation?

LOL too funny. Obviously, Eric and GearHeadDan are too young to have actually ever worked on a 1980 Citation, or too old and senile to remember how they were equipped. None were fuel-injected, in which case the fuel filter usually would be located under the car. And a QuadraJet would hardly be found on either the 4-cyl or V6 available on these cars. In either case, your vehicle would come, from the factory at least, with a 2 barrel carb known as the VaraJet. This is a 2 barrel with a primary (smaller) venturi and a secondary (larger) venturi, as opposed to the DualJet, which is also a 2 barrel, but with 2 primaries. That one's basically the front half of a Q-Jet. The VaraJet is more like one side of a Q-Jet, although it bears no physical resemblance like the DualJet does.

The VaraJet does have the same basic fuel filter setup as the others, though it's really a totally unrelated design in most other respects. It's in a cylindrical housing, attached to the primary side of the carb. Like the others, it also has a 1 inch hex built into the end towards the carb. Given the tightness of placement (on the 2.8L V6 especially), a special wrench was made for holding this hex, to keep the housing from coming loose from the carb, instead of the fuel line coming loose from it. Not strictly necessary, but much easier to use than a Crescent or standard open-end wrench. Very thin, with a specially offset head, about 45 degrees as opposed to the usual 15.

While holding the 1 inch hex, loosen and remove the fuel line. After that, remove the cylindrical housing. Inside, you will find the paper fuel filter, along with a spring. When you put it back together, make sure you put the filter in first, with the open end facing the fuel line, then the spring. There is also a gasket around the big end with the 1 inch hex which you will want to check, to make sure it doesn't leak after you put it back together. Tighten the cylinder first, not too tight, as it's going into an aluminum carb body, then hand start the fuel line to prevent cross threading, then tighten while holding the 1 inch end of the cylinder, to keep that from over-tightening.

Below are exploded views of the 2SE and E2SE (VaraJet) carbs in question, followed by the 2M (DualJet, aka 210) and 4M (QuadraJet) series.

    http://www.mactools.com/product/tabid/12

Sorry Dan. I didn't mean to give you such a hard time. Given the similarities in the various GM carbs, your answer was actually much better than Eric's.

Looks like I goofed too. According to the diagram, the fuel filter is on the fuel bowl side, not the primary end of the carb. The more I think about it, I believe they were mounted kind of sideways on the V6, which is mostly what I ran across. How to change a fuel filter on a 1980 chevy citation? They are located under the car.

and just unscrew like all the rest of the same time peroid. How to change a fuel filter on a 1980 chevy citation? Those old citations had a quadrajet carburetor on them. Look where the fuel line goes into the carb. See the large hexagonal cap there?

First remove the fuel line (1/2%26quot; line wrench). You may have to hold back on the inlet cap to get the line loose. Then remove the cap, and you'll see the tiny filter in there. The cap is large so your best bet for that is an adjustable wrench.

Hello, I plan on changing my fuel filter and I pulled the fuse out for the pump and it idled for about a half hour and then I had to shut it off because I didn't have anymore time. Thanks. How to release the fuel pressure in a 96 cavalier? for changing the fuel filter?Just start to take the line off and let what's in the line drain out, that's all I ever do. How do you change a fuel pump in a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am?

I have a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am, V6 engine. It's having a hard time starting up and running (it takes a few turns of the key and a couple presses of the gas pedal and than when I put it in gear it kind of chugs when I give it gas and than dies) my husband changed the fuel filter and it was pretty clogged up. He says the next step is to change the fuel pump but is not quite sure where to start on how to do it. Before he removes the pump, he should connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel injector rail to see if the fuel pressure is low.

If the fuel filter was%26quot;really clogged up%26quot;, you probably have contamination in the gas tank. Either someone dumped dirt in it or it is rusting and particles clogged the filter. If it was clogged so much that he noticied it, the fuel injectors may also be clogged.

I suggest you start with the pressure test first. If pressure is okay, I would then work on the injectors. How do you change a fuel pump in a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am?check the fuel pressure first..changing the pump is alot of work and is quite expensive just throw some parts at it without diagnosing first... there's a test port on the fuel rail...double check me (i dont know what engine is in your car) it should be around 50 psiHow do you change a fuel pump in a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am?you have to drop the gas tank off of it to get to it,and its a hard job, if there's any gas left in the tank it makes the tank really hard to handle, its not an easy job either, but if you can get some help with it then it would be easier, but for the hassle of it id pay to have this job done,i own a shop ,and even i hate seeing these jobs come in,gas is dangerous, and it would pay to have this one done, and its a lot safer also, good luck with it hope this helps. How do you change a fuel pump in a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am?jack up the car....supprt w/jackstands...pull the gas line lose...put a jack under the tank.....remove the support straps...the tank should lower with the jack...this is best done when there is a small amount of fuel in the tankHow do you change a fuel pump in a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am?I would suggest trying this site. It's very informative and helps me from time to time.

    Good luck!

http://www.automedia.com/Fuel/Pump/Replacement/ccr20051101fp/1How do you change a fuel pump in a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am?Well hopefully you are low on gas. But you have to drop the fuel tank. There should be two straps that hold the tank up to the body of the car. You have drop them and then you should be able to see the fuel lines going into the tank. Take the lines off the sending being carefully that you don't brake anything, these metal lines are probably very rusty and brittle. You should see a large lock ring around the base of the fuel sending unit. You have to some how turn that lock ring, most people use a chisel and a hammer. After you get that off you should be able to pull the sending unit out of the tank. There are two types of fuel pumps that might be available for your car. One is a complete unit that includes a fuel pump that is already installed into the sending unit. Or what they call a cut away, which means you can buy the pump and strainer and install it into the old sending unit.

    Hope this helps.

  • What kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer. We are going to change the fuel filter. I am told a couple things. First, it's hard because on my model it is above the fuel tank and second, that there is a special tool for removing the filter. Any information on how to properly replace the filter and what this tool looks like would be great. Pictures would also be appreciated. Thank you! What kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?its called a ford quick relese tool, go to any parts store and say what you need, they will have it, it is however a pain in the butt, because you will wrestle with it if youve never done itWhat kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?its like a bike chain on a lever that has a handle and has you turn it it tightens

i think they are called oil filter removers i know it isn't a fuel filter but i think it is the same thing to be honestWhat kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?I don't think that there is any special tool to remove a fuel filter, but I bet if there is it isn't an oil filter tool! If it is above the fuel tank, you may have to drop the fuel tank to get to it. I've never seen a fuel filter that needed any special tool to remove it.What kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?First... If you change the filter, make sure the key is off. You will have fuel leaking, the fuel lines are under 60psi of pressure.

Secound... Raising the vehicle will make life much easier, if you do it on the ground you will get soaked in fuel.

Third... One side of the filter should be threaded and the other a quick clip. The threaded side should be a 3/4 wrench and a 5/8 wrench. Their is a special tool for the quick clip, but you can manage with a pair of needle nose plyers.

Have fun and dont smoke while doing this! What kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter? You do not really need any special tool ,if you are familiar with how it works you can get it off with a small screwdriver or some needlenose pliars. The tool is very inexpensive and if you have never done it then go and get you one. Just ask for a fuel line disconnect tool for your vehicle. Dont forget to look at the arrow and install the filter the right direction - sometimes they can hook up either way sometimes only one way.

I've a 2001 Astra 1.7 DTi LS 16V diesel. I plan to do the oil, oil filter and fuel filter change myself on the car. I've all the parts.

I think the OIL FILTER is in a housing just behind the engine and close to top, which needs to be opened with a spanner and the oil filter is a paper cartridge type filter inside.

Regarding the FUEL FILTER, there is another plastic housing with a torx screw on top, is this the fuel filter? The new fuel filter is a paper type too which I think would go into its housing.

Do I need to bleed the system after I install new fuel filter?

Is there any special thing I need to take care while removing and installing fuel filter?

Thanks for your help in advance..How to change oil filter and fuel filter in Astra 1.7 DTi?I suggest you invest in a Haynes manual, it'll show you in photos exactly where %26amp; what the various bits are, and how to do the work - it'll pay for itself immediately.

Changing fuel filter on 98 chevy k1500?

I was about to change the fuel filter on my truck and it looks preaty strate forward looks like the filter has pipe fittings on it. just wanted to make sher that I did not mess this up before I started

the filter is lower than the tank is that a issue or would the pump some how stop the gas from going down with gravity (cause that would suck if all the gas came out)

should I put some teflone tape or somthing on the fittings wen I put it back in so it does not leak

I already depressurized the system by disconnecting the fuel pump relay while it was runningChanging fuel filter on 98 chevy k1500?Don't worry about the small amount of gas that will come out. The pump check valve will keep it in the tank.

Don't use thread sealer on the fittings. This is a flare fitting. It will seal itself when tightened. Using teflon tape may actually cause it to leak.Changing fuel filter on 98 chevy k1500?You dont have to do any of extra work. Just remove the fuel filter and dont panic if gas come out. Its come only little bit then its stop. Then put new one in it.Changing fuel filter on 98 chevy k1500?First, you will have to unscrew the plastic clip that surrounds the filter and holds the filter to the bottom of the frame rail. Pull it down some and this will give you room to work. Then take your open end wrenches and remove the engine side of the filter first. Hold one side of the fitting and turn the other side the opposite way to take it loose. Stuff a rag in the end of the filter. Now take off the tank side of the line and stuff another rag in the line to hold back most of the gasoline from leaking down your arm. Make sure you find the arrow on the side of the new filter and point it towards the engine. Now screw it all back together. You don't need any teflon tape on the threads. That would not help. Just don't crossthread the fittings. This is not too hard to change but you will get a small amount of gas on you. Now go wash it off of you.

    Changed fuel filter...now brakes?

I drive a Nissan 200SX. After a long, stressful day of trying to figure out why my car was sputtering and stopping, my father seemed certain that the problem was the fuel filter. So I got a new one and replaced it.

Now, when the engine isn't running, the brake pedal feels like it always did. Just fine. But when I turn on the ignition, the pedal gives my foot no resistance whatsoever. I am able to push it back about twice as far as I was able to before, and even when its touching the floor, as far down as I can put it, the car won't stop for a good 10 feet at least, depending on how fast I was going.

Any ideas? I can't get a hold of my dad to ask him.Changed fuel filter...now brakes?Check your brake fluid. Then look for any leaks. Usually when you have no pedal there's some kind of leak. Or possibly the brake booster.Changed fuel filter...now brakes?I would check all the hoses around the fuel filter. It's possible you left something disconnected when you replaced the fuel filter.Changed fuel filter...now brakes?Well, changing the fuel filter would have no problem with the brakes whatsoever...But, for your brakes, begin by ensuring there is fluid in the reservoir. If its low, then fill it up...but it will probably be empty, which you need to fill it up then bleed all of your brakes. While bleeding, check all of your lines for a leak, and if you find it, replace the lines. If none of the lines are leaking, check out your master cylinder. That could also be leaking.Changed fuel filter...now brakes? Please check the air hose connections to the brake booster( a big disk like think near to the brake fluid reserviour) or check for the leaks in the brake line.

it is always adviced to replace the brake fluid every two years since it has the capacity to absorb moisture.

  • Changing Fuel Filter?

How do I change a fuel filter for a 1998 Buick LeSabre? I have an auto manual with all this do-it-yourself information, but it makes it sound EXTREMELY dangerous. Should I just take it to a mechanic?Changing Fuel Filter? If you have to ask, it is probably outside of your ability. The only danger is if yuo drink the gasoline, or try to smoke while changing the filter.Changing Fuel Filter?dangerous? no...easy? no...if you r not sure...let the pro do it.Changing Fuel Filter?do it when the car is cool. a hot exhaust could ignite a fire. some vehicles you need a special tool to get the filter off, but some don't. it should be fairly easy. take the hose off both ends, put the new filter on and put the hose back on and secure them so they don't leak. don't let them scare you, they just want you to pay 80$ an hour at the shopChanging Fuel Filter?jack up the car, crawl under the car, located the fuel filter in the fuel line.

use a screwdriver or fuel line disconnects to get the fuel lines separated from the fuel filter.

get fuel all down your arm and possibly in your eye. cuss a bunch. drink a beer and calm down.

snap the fuel lines on the new fuel filter and put it back in the clips that hold it in place. crawl out from under car and lower jack.

crank car and enjoy. then go take a shower because you smell like gas.Changing Fuel Filter?its not hard at all just to be safe go to autozone.com they can tell you how to do it step by step just type in your make and model and go from thereChanging Fuel Filter? On a vehicle that old you have the chance of wrecking the fuel lines.

I don't like doing fuel filters unless I have the car on a lift. Gas running down your arms to the armpits is rather uncomfortable.Changing Fuel Filter? If you have to ask, it is probably outside of your ability. It a V6,DOes anyone know how to change the fuel filter on a '04 Pontiac Grand Am?Most newer cars require a special tool to remove the connectors now. And also, you do have to relieve the pressure in the system before removing. I would suggest getting a Haynes manual for your car. You can pick them up at Autozone, Advance, etc. for around $10
